چکیده

A L T H O U G H numerous red cell antigens, two electrophoretic forms of hemoglobin and at least 13 electrophoi*etic forms of transferrin have been described in domestic sheep (see RASMUSEN 1962; OGDEN 1961 ; and ASHTON and F E R G U ~ O N 1963), there have been no reports in which these three kinds of markers have been used conjointly in breed comparisons. Furthermore, there have been no reports on the Irequencies of hemoglobin ( H b ) and transferrin (Tf) alleles in any breeds of sheep in the United States. We, therefore, undertook such a survey with the primary objeciive of obtaining data on the frequencies of H b and Tf alleles in various breeds of sheep in the western United States. We also recorded blood types using antibodies for blood factors in the A, D, R-0 and X-Z systems. This report presents the results of that survey. A similar survey, concerned with three new phenotypic systems (A esterase, carbonic anhydrase and X protein) is published elsewhere (TUCKER, SUZUKI and STORMONT 1967).

Genetic Polymorphism of b-Lactoglobulin in Certain Iranian and Russian Sheep Breeds

b-lactoglobulin (Coded by the b-lg gene) is the major milk whey protein in ruminants. Studies have shown that this protein is polymorphic in many breeds of sheep as a result of a single base pair substitution in the b-lg gene that also gives rise to RsaI restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP). Blood samples were collected from 391 animals belonging to 5 Iranian and 6 Russian sheep bree...

Blood groups: In Health and Diseases

ABO blood type antigens are polymorphic, inherited structures presented on the surface of red blood cells. Although ABO blood group antigens is the most important antigens in transfusion medicine, its main role is not clearly clarified. Correlation between ABO blood group and susceptibility to certain infectious and non-infectious diseases is a controversial issue. Since, lack of blood type ant...

Polymorphism of some Genes Associated with Meat-Related Traits in Egyptian Sheep Breeds

The genetic polymorphism of some genes related to meat production in three Egyptian sheep breeds (Barki, Rahmani and Osseimi) was studied. The candidate genes were: Calpastatin, Myostatin, Diacylglycerol-acyltransferase1, Insulin-like growth factor binding protein-3 and Booroola fecundity gene. The technique applied was the restriction fragment length polymorphism for the polymerase chain react...

Title: GENETICS OF SHEEP TRANSFERRINS AS DETERMINED BY DISC ELECTROPHORESIS

approved: Ralph/Bogart Redacted for Privacy A total of 902 plasma samples from the Rambouillet, Targhee, Columbia, Lincoln, and Suffolk breeds of sheep were analyzed for transferrin type by disc electrophoresis. Six transferrin types, TfA, TfB, TfC, Tfp, TfE, and TfP, were found in the Rambouillet, Targhee, and Columbia breeds while five, A, B, C, D, E, and four, A, B, C, D, types were observed...

Isolation and identification of excretory-secretory and somatic antigens from the Oestrus ovis larvae by SDS-PAGE and immunoblotting

Oestrus ovis is an economically important parasite of small ruminants and a zoonotic parasite with many reports of ophthalmomyiasis in human from Iran and other countries. The aim of the peresent studywas the isolation and identification of excretory-secretory (ES) and somatic (S) antigens of O. ovis second and third stage larvae (L2, L3) collected from Arabi sheep breeds loca...
